Our ‘A’ team’s first official outing of the new season was not quite good enough as they were beaten by Corofin despite a good second half performance. For parts of the game they defended well but looked weak in attack and vice versa. They were 2-nil down on 30mins and it looked like it would be a replica of last season’s first few games, having conceded a ‘soft’ goal on 20mins which bobbled over the line and a ‘classic’ goal on 30mins. The players knew they could raise their game however, and got a goal back thanks to Paddy Mullins who side footed from the edge of the box connecting well on a lovely through ball from Damian Wynne. Apart from this, Colemanstown had no other real clear cut chances only some half chances from the lively Damien Wynne and Alan Finn. Colemanstown burst into life in the 2nd half and their collective hunger was seen much better with particular outstanding contributions from the tireless Jason Finn at centre back; Trevor Mullins at left back & Damien Wynne & Alan Finn on the wings. Paddy Mullins was also extremely creative when introduced up front. They battled well and chances fell to the aforementioned Alan Finn who hit the woodwork, Damien Wynne & Trevor Mullins while Paddy Mullins had a 1 on 1 chance at the death when he could have taken the better option by passing to Ray Moran. Alan Finn (Junior) also saved a penalty midway through the half; only 1 of the rare chances created by Corofin in the 2nd half. Overall it was a good team performance; only the result didn’t go our way.
