Our U11’s & U10’s team had a busy day yesterday with many making the trip from the Centre of Excellence, Bekan, Ballyhaunis to Craughwell, where they closed the U10 & U8 hurling campaign having played 5 hurling matches earlier in the day. Despite extremely low numbers and tired and lethargic legs, this was an action packed game against Craughwell in the first round of the Development league.
Craughwell U11’s were the better team but Colemanstown had numerous opportunities to score but just couldn’t finish their chances. 4-1 to Craughwell at half time with many opportunities falling to Fionn Flattery; Jonah Donnellan – Colemanstown’s goal scorer. In the second half, there was a row as to who would stand in goals as all wanted a bit of a reprieve after the heavy going but we started to pass the ball a bit more and closed Craughwell down. Cian Burke clawed back the score with a good strike from distance but Craughwell scored 2 more to finish strong. Thanks to Barry Forde for his mentoring on the day. Team: Ross Lally, Cathal Kennedy, Diarmuid Ryan, Jonah Donnellan, Sean Connolly, Cian Burke, Fionn Flattery.
We wish David Walsh and Josh Buckley a quick recovery in their injuries sustained during the week.
Our U10’s under the guidance of Elaine Walsh and assistant for the day Damian Mannion also found their squad under pressure from the word ‘go’. Craughwell attacked much more and defenders Conor Walsh & Tiernan Malone were put to the test but did well to clear the ball although they got caught on a few occasions. Aaron Lyndsey couldn’t be faulted for the goals conceded. Ronan Screene & Ryan Concannon did well in midfield while up front Alex Kelly & Joshua McDonnell tried hard to crack a score. However, the depleted numbers didn’t help the cause in a 3-0 loss. Most important of all for these youngsters, everyone got playing time.
Team: Aaron Lyndsey, Nathan Mannion, Conor Walsh, Tiernan Malone, Josh McDonnell, Ryan Concannon, Ronan Screene, Alex Kelly.
