Colemanstown U14 Girls 1 – 1 Renmore. In our 1st league game of the 24/25 season we welcomed Renmore FC to Colemanstown to play our U14 girls. On a busy day in Colemanstown with 4 home games it was great to see our amazing facilities being put to full use. It was far from ideal conditions at kick off with strong gusts and driving rain which eased throughout the morning. Renmore played with the breeze at their backs in the 1st half & enjoyed most of the possession with Colemanstown finding it difficult to get on the ball and into the oppositions half. Any attempts on goal were dealt with ease by our keeper and captain for the season Lucy Butler with backup from our centre backs Grace Connolly and Kate Mitchell. Colemanstown never really threatened at the other end with Lucy’s kick outs nearly coming back at her such was the gale. Tia Loughlane and Muireann Roche were busy breaking down Renmore’s attacks in the middle. Chances for the home team were few and far between with Tara Dillon and new signing Leah Hansberry having to drop back to midfield to get on the ball. A goal for Renmore was inevitable and it came with 5 minutes remaining in the 1st half with a great strike that left Lucy Butler with no chance. After a good drink at half time the girls knew the strong wind would be as good as a 12th player. Emily Rohan was introduced after playing 2 games the day before and her impact was felt immediately.
Colemanstown’s girls grew in confidence with Maddie Rohan on the right and Emma Collins on the left piling on the pressure. It wouldn’t be long before we equalised and after some great work in midfield by Grace Jordan the home side earned a corner. Directly from the corner Emily Rohan somehow judged it perfectly to let the wind carry it in past the Renmore keeper. Signs were on that we would push on and score the winner but hats off to the Renmore defence who dealt with relentless pressure for the final 15 mins to see the game out a 1-1 draw. In fairness it was justice that both teams earned a point from the game. It wasn’t easy weather to play in and everyone left it all on the pitch. An exciting season ahead for this eager squad of girls. Next up is an away trip to Westside on Sunday week to play Corrib Rangers. Match Report: Niall Rohan
