U12 Boys Connacht Cup: Fahy Rovers 1 – 6 Colemanstown A. Our U12A boys squad headed to Fahy Rovers (Mayo) early this morning for a 12pm kick off in what was a first competitive football match for most of the boys. Colemanstown settled well early into the game but were almost 1 down after 10 mins except for an excellent 1 on 1 save from Kerrill Walsh in goals. This gave a kick start to the boys to up it a gear and shortly after Jack Grealish had the ball in the net after some great work down the left involving Mark Shaughnessy and Evan Molloy. The back 3 of Aaron Burke, George Costello and Ethan Monaghan were adjusting to playing the offside trap very well and caught the hosts offside a number of occasions. On the 20 min mark we were awarded a fortuitous penalty after great work by Oisin Flannery and Se Laffey sent Jack through on goal and after contact in the box the ref awarded the penalty. Jack slotted it home nicely. Matt Feeney and Frank Dunne were introduced before half time and both settled into the game instantly. 2-0 at the break. The second half saw Fahy Rovers push on a bit and they were rewarded with a goal on 35 mins. From then on the Colemanstown lads piled on the pressure. James Kilkenny and Phelim Flynn came into midfield to give more energy and Chris Burke was introduced in defence. Evan Molloy hit 2 quick goals leaving the keeper with no chance for either. Shortly after George Moore and Jamie Lally made their appearance. The introduction of these 2 kicked on the boys again. James Kilkenny made his way through the middle to finish to the roof of the net and Frank Dunne fired in a beauty to the bottom corner after narrowly missing the top corner with an excellent effort just beforehand. 6-1 it finished in the end. A massive thank you to Fahy Rovers’ hospitality team who provided the travelling Colemanstown contingent with much welcome tea, coffee, sandwiches and treats. Match report: Adrian Burke

U12 Boys Div2 Colemanstown ‘B‘ 4 – 2 Oughterard B. Colemanstown U12B boys team welcomed Oughterard ‘B’ to a very windy Colemanstown this morning. A great battle ensued with Oughterard having the benefit of a gael behind them for the opening half. It was only through excellent defense that Oughterard were kept to 2 goals in the first 30 minutes. James Vignoles kept us in it with a long range strike late in the first half with the game 2-1 to Oughterard at the break. It really was a game of two halves and with the wind Colemanstown started to dominate and began to win the ball back higher up the pitch. Two goals from Cathal Burns in the third quarter put Colmanstown up 3-2. One of these was a 20 yard free kick that crashed in off the crossbar and even had the Oughterard management clapping. The goals were rounded off by a second strike from James Vignoles from the corner flag which he curled in beautifully. While the two lads got the goals from midfield it really was an excellent team performance. The strikers pressed from the front and no Oughterard player got anytime to get comfortable on the ball. Well done to all the lads. Match Report: Liam Flannery

U14 Boys Connacht Cup. Barna na Forbacha 2 – 1 Colemanstown. Barna were the hosts this morning for Round 1 of the Connacht Cup & it was them who advanced to the next round courtesy of two 1st half goals which inflicted most of the damage on Colemanstown, but Alan Walsh’s team never gave up. A hectic enough start for Colemanstown assisted by a strong breeze saw us camped in Barna’s half for the first 20mins with meaningful chances falling to Owen Hillary, Kealan Murray & Dermot Parker in this spell. Then the hosts took the lead with a sucker blow as they attacked down the left wing & a cross into the box was prodded home. Barna then dominated for large spells after that as they showed their quality. Their 2nd arrived 5mins before the break when they capitalised on a poor Colemanstown clearance. Some 2nd half changes saw Colemanstown up the ante with Daithi Burns replacing the injured Finian Walsh & Thomas Kennedy also brought pace and energy to the game at the right time. Colemanstown started to get in behind the opposition’s backline but without really troubling the Barna goalkeeper as Kealan Murray, Thomas Kennedy & Dermot Parker created half chances. At the other end, Aidan Quinn made a couple of fine saves & Oisin Nugent was immense to prevent a widening of the scoreline. Still the lads in green kept going. With time running out, Dermot Parker was upended in the box after a fine run & he dispatched the spot kick for a well deserved goal. Barna played smartly til the final whistle as they maintained possession to snuff out any Colemanstown chance of getting an equaliser. Final score: Barna na Forbacha 2 – 1 Colemanstown. Best wishes to Barna in the next round. Match report: Martina Donnellan

U14 Girls Connacht Cup: Boyle Celtic 2 – 1 Colemanstown. Our girls made the long trek to Boyle today to take on hosts Boyle Celtic in the driving rain in the 1st round of the Connacht Cup. Playing with the wind in the 1st half, Colemanstown girls controlled possession creating loads of chances through Emily Rohan, Tia Loughnane & Leah Hansberry. Then against the run of play, Boyle scored a fantastic individual goal as their striker ran through the centre before she found the net with a well taken finish. 1-0 down at half time. The 2nd half was 10mins old when Colemanstown drew level. Emma Collins & Shauna McDonagh were involved in the move which culminated in Emily Rohan getting the ball to her feet, & with 3 players still to beat, she made it look easy as she found the net. Colemanstown continued to dominate the 2nd half as Emily Rohan created a hatful of chances & Muireann Roche was rock solid as CDM. The turning point came with 8 mins left when the hosts scored a piledriver from the edge of the 18’ box leaving Lucy Butler with absolutely no chance in goals. Try as they might our girls had little time to roar back & time ran out in the end. This was an exciting game with both sides giving it hammer & tongs. Colemanstown used the techniques learned in training to good effect with some passages of lovely passing football. Final score: Boyle Celtic 2 – 1 Colemanstown. Match report: Martina Donnellan
