Saturday saw our U19 girls away to Craughwell in the Premier league but given a waterlogged Craughwell pitch, the game moved to Oranmore / Maree 4G. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half as both keepers were called on to keep the game scoreless, together with some combined defensive on line clearances. Craughwell broke free through the middle 5 mins into the game and as Nina Bujak advanced off her line to make the save, the Craughwell striker maintained her momentum and with a free goal Keva Hynes appeared out of nowhere on the line to block the shot with her knee and cleared the goal line. An exact replica mirrored itself 10 mins later following another Craughwell break and as a stranded Nina got her foot to the effort, this time Shauna Hynes came to the rescue with a great stop and subsequent clearance.
At this stage, Colemanstown began to play some good joined-up soccer and put the Craughwell back line under a bit of pressure. Leah Moran and Eabha Rohan kept the defence and Craughwell keeper on their toes but were unable to find the net. 0-0 at half time. A few astute changes were made at half time as Libby Kennedy came into midfield and Annalise Doran at left back and this worked a treat. With Colemanstown’s determination to get to the ball first, Libby put Leah Moran through but the Craughwell defender was first to the ball to clear out the left flank which Annalise Doran quickly sent back into the box to set Leah Moran clean through and she finished a great shot into the top corner to put Colemanstown 1-0 up. However, Craughwell came back fighting and the little number 9 orchestrated some great chances at goal but Nina Bujak had a super day between the posts. 19 mins later as Colemanstown were under some sustained pressure, the Craughwell midfielder played a great ball through a gap for their speedy striker to latch on to and she let go with a great effort which found its way into the bottom corner which Nina Bujak could do nothing about. It almost ended in tears 3 mins into stoppage time when the midfielder again put a great through ball into the striker and only for the speed of Sina Schwitalla who got her toe to the ball, it could have been so much worse. 1-1 it ended as Colemanstown got away with a well earned league point and all went home happy.
